Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
