Grief as Beloved South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.

A popular South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.

Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location close to the Carlton Centre.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities confirmed.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their whereabouts," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
