Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
