Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year following instigating insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds finished through agreement this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder
The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford looking to revive his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
